Hope City's Agape Feast

Agape Feast: A Celebration of Communion and Fellowship

At Hope City, we believe in the power of community, love, and breaking bread together in a meaningful way. One of the most cherished traditions we have is the Agape Feast, a beautiful gathering where we take communion together around tables, followed by a shared potluck meal. This event is a time of reflection, gratitude, and joyful fellowship as we celebrate the love of Christ and the bond we share as a church family.

What is an Agape Meal?

The Agape Meal, historically known as a Love Feast, is rooted in the early Christian church. The word ‘Agape’ is derived from the Greek word for unconditional love, the kind of love God has for His people. This meal expresses the sharing, belonging, and fellowship we experience with one another as followers of Christ.

A Tradition of Love and Unity

In the early church, believers would gather in homes, share a meal, and partake in communion, emphasizing their unity in Christ. The Agape Meal was more than just eating together; it was a sacred time of worship, prayer, and mutual encouragement. Today, we continue this tradition at Hope City, embodying the same spirit of love, hospitality, and community.

How We Celebrate at Hope City

During our Agape Feast:
  • We gather around tables, creating an intimate and welcoming environment.
  • We partake in communion, remembering Christ’s sacrifice and celebrating our salvation.
  • We pray together, lifting up one another in encouragement and gratitude.
  • We enjoy a potluck meal, where everyone brings a dish to share, symbolizing the generosity and unity of our church family.

We Celebrate Every Month!

At Hope City, we celebrate this meal on the 3rd Sunday of every month. It is a consistent time where we come together to share in the love of Christ and strengthen our bonds as a church family.

Why the Agape Feast Matters

The Agape Feast is more than just an event—it’s an expression of Christ’s love in action. It reminds us that:
  • We are one body in Christ (1 Corinthians 10:17).
  • Fellowship strengthens our faith and relationships (Acts 2:42-47).
  • The church is a family, supporting and loving one another (Romans 12:10).
